Mommy, what did he just say??

Andy Roddick said a bad word in his match today.
(Or was it yesterday? god damn australian time....)

yes, he said FUCK
F-U-C-K

Of course, the editors were quick to replace it with that bleep sound that is so pleasing to the ears. But immediately after Roddick uttered this expletive phrase the commentators began to estimate the fine he will receive for it in the THOUSANDS of dollars

made me start to think... how can you put a price tag on words? how can you put a price tag on sounds coming out of one's mouth?
It must be the meaning behind the word, then. but... if the anger behind the word fuck is worth a hefty fine, then what about an angry facial expression? What about negative body language?

The more you analyze this the clearer it becomes--fuck is not the reason for the fine. it can't be.

if that's not it, then...
why?

Woah

Sirius is in love with Animal Collective. Its official

SiriusXMU is a great station but i have heard My Girls so many times in the last week that I feel like its on repeat in my brain

The song is good, I admit. But it sounds strangely like the music I would expect to hear from the inside of a time machine. There would be flashing lights and shiny metallic walls and My Girls blaring through some futuristic speakers

also, Beirut came out with a new "double EP".
get it.

What is happening?

Not trying to get too worked up about the media, bros

but today I noticed something very "bloggable" during the Obama religious ritual a.k.a. inauguration coverage
scenario: george w. bush gets off a plane in his hometown in Texas and delivers a speech to the locals.

MSNBC- cuts to Bush's speech for the first maybe 15 seconds and Chris Matthews quickly deems it to be "irrelevant". video shrinks to the corner of the screen and soon disappears

CNN- Not one frame of the speech.

Fox News- Full screen coverage for the entirety of Bush's shout out to his boyz

in the 21st century, an individual's view of the world depends on his choice of mass media outlet

Racism, dawg

Im being told that Barack Obama's inauguration tomorrow marks the second coming of Christ, the fulfillment of MLK's "dream", and the overall "race problems" of America.

the mainstream media is seriously psyched that this guy is becoming president. Now that a black man will running the show, all races can chill together in perfect harmony

Im not a big believer in "racism"... I think people have a natural tendency to simplify groups into certain characteristics, no matter what the subject of the simplification may be. But the media is being "racist" according to its own standard definition of the term

On CNN today, I heard a comment that went something like this: "African American children used to look up to heroes from professional sports and the music industry before Barack Obama"

dude.

The bandwagon that is Barack Obama is not headed for Utopiaville any time soon, so hold up CNN.

the question is not about whether or not race relations have been fixed. the question should focus more on whether or not they have ever been broken. (wouldnt be the first time that a major issue turns out to be a mere human invention)

What ever happened to release dates?

3 albums set to come out on January 20--
Bon Iver- Blood bank (EP)
Animal Collective- Merriweather Post Pavilion
Andrew Bird- Noble Beast

All of them can be heard in their entirety already through the magic of the internet.
Bon Iver's is up on his myspace (http://www.myspace.com/boniver)
The other two require a little torrent scouring but well worth it I assure you.

its surprising that bon iver has conjured up enough musical inspiration already after his recent release last year, especially since he is no longer isolated in a remote cabin (I assume). but I enjoyed it nevertheless and you should check it out

Case of the "mondays"

So the partying of the weekend is over and it is back to our pathetic lives. did you meet a "hott girl/guy that might actually hang out with u?" Now is the critical time period to capitalize on your recent advances.

youve probably exchanged some digits maybe even done the facebook thing and now there are several options. the means of communication you use to talk to this special someone will greatly influence your "chances of getting your d wet next weekend".

Here are some popular choices and what they say about you as a person:

Facebook wall2wall: i am pretty desperate to talk to u and i am so proud to know u that i want the world 2 see
Facebook message: im either embarrassed to be conversing with u or im hoping this convo gets 2 dirty for my wall
Facebook chat: i am slightly/extremely obsessed with the internet/facebook. either way u probably should avoid me and my socially awkward tendencies
Texting: Im a conventional bro who is into u but not enough to actually dedicate any effort
Phone call: what the fuck dude??

Good luck bros-- hopefully that chick/dude still acknowledges your existence
